Michigan Democrat Lon Johnson to run for Congress

Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Lon Johnson announced toda635708186310776560-lon-johnsony that he’s running for a seat in Congress next year, hoping to upend U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek, a Republican three-term incumbent who is running for re-election.

Johnson, 44, has been chairman of the state Democratic Party since 2013, defeating long-term chairman Mark Brewer. A native of Rockwood, Johnson and his wife, Julianna Smoot, who was President Barack Obama’s deputy manager in 2012, live in Kalkaska.  Read More
