WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Democrats on Capitol Hill are taking action to ban discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people nationwide.

On Thursday, Democrats in the House and Senate introduced the Equality Act of 2015.

It would expand civil rights laws and ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

It comes on the heels of the Supreme Court’s historic decision last month, which made marriage equality the law of the land.
