Editorial: Finish rape kit tests statewide

Michigan is steadily moving through its backlog of untested rape kits, and now a new appropriation from the Legislature should help outstate counties bring their testing up to date.

The $1.7 million came at the request of Attorney General Bill Schuette, who is asking for data on untested rape kits from prosecutors in all counties outside of Wayne County, which has its own ongoing initiative to deal with more than 11,000 untested kits, many of which had languished in storage for decades.
