State board approves Planned Parenthood grant despite conservative objections

The State Administrative Board on Tuesday approved a grant transfer and funding increase for Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan to provide low-cost family planning services in Detroit.

Conservatives in the state House had called on the board to reject the $1.2 million request submitted by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, citing current-year budget language designed to prevent state funding for Planned Parenthood.
